A woman from Florida, US has been arrested after allegedly engaged in the online trade of human bones, including skulls and ribs, through the Facebook Marketplace.
According to officials, 52 -year -old Kymberlee Schopper is facing allegations related to illegal sales and purchase of human tissue. Police said Fox 35 orlando,
Shopper was taken into custody and was later released from Volusia County Jail on a bond of $ 7,500 (about 6.45 lakh rupees) on 11 April.
The investigation began on December 21, 2023 after the Orange City Police received a tip-off on the sale of human bones through a local business Facebook page. The informer provided the authorities with images that appeared to show the bones listed for sale on the profile of the business.
The business under consideration was identified as ‘wicked Wonderland’ at North Volusia Avenue in an area of Orange City. Subsequent inspections of the store’s website revealed that a series of human remains is available for purchase.
The listed objects were two human skull pieces, a goose and scapula, a rib, a vertex and a partial skull.
The police collected the remains and sent them to the medical examiner’s office for further analysis.
During the store visit, the police spoke to one of the owners who claimed that the business had been selling human bones for years and was unaware that such sales were banned in Florida.
“He confirmed that the store had several human bone pieces, bought from all private vendors, and mentioned that he had documents for these transactions, but could not provide it at that time. He described bones as real human residues and delicate in nature,” According to Fox 35 Orlando.
Shopper said that bones were educational models, which believed that he allowed for his legal sale under the state law.
Experts examining the remains concluded that some bones could be basically archaeological. The piece of a skull is believed to be more than 100 years old, while another bone showed signs of being more than 500 years old.
