China to ‘reduce the moderately’ number of American film imports: Entertainment body

Beijing:

China’s film administration said on Thursday that it would “reduce” the number of imported American films in the country, as the deadlock between the two largest economies in the world increases.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday increased the tariff to 125 percent on Chinese goods, while China has imposed an anti -84 per cent of an anti -anticance levy.

And on Thursday, the impact of the trade war spread to China’s vast and attractive film market, which was the second largest in the world.

A statement by the film administration said, “The incorrect action of the US government indiscriminately on China is bound to reduce the favorable impression of the domestic audience on American films.”

“We will follow the market law, respect the choice of the audience, and reduce the number of imported American films marginally.”

Beijing already limits the number of foreign films shown in theaters through a system of quota.

However, the sheer shape of the Chinese market means that losing overdose than limited access would also be a blow to the American studios.

Showcases Hollywood blockbusters often rent well at the Chinese box office.

According to the Hollywood reporter, Warner Brothers and Legendary’s “A Mincraft Movie” topped the previous weekend with the sale of about $ 14.5 million tickets.
