Washington:
On Wednesday (local time), the US secretary of Treasury Scott Besant addressed an immediate increase in a 125 percent tariff on China, stating that the issue is not only about the country, but also about “bad actors” in global business during a press briefing at the White House.
He emphasized that such a step focuses on countries like China, which are contributing to imbalance in the global economy.
During briefing with the White House press secretary Karolin Lewit, Besant said that business talks were held mainly with “neighbors of China” like Japan, South Korea and India.
“Well, it’s about bad actors. And what we see is some of the very early countries that we are going to see. I have seen Vietnam today. Japan is in front, South Korea and India.
He said, “I am not calling it a trade war, but I am saying that China has moved forward, and the President responded very boldly on it, and we are going to work on a solution with our business partners,” he said.
The American secretary of the Treasury highlighted the success of US President Trump’s conversation strategy, stating that more than 75 countries have been brought forward to engage in business talks.
“The successful conversation strategy that President Trump implemented today a week ago. It has brought more than 75 countries to talk. He had a lot of courage to stay in the course till this moment – a lot of courage for him, and it ended here. As I told everyone at this place a week ago,” Not vengeance, and will not be rewarded. ” Therefore, every country in the world which wants to come and talk, we are ready to hear you;
Earlier, President Trump announced an immediate 125 percent increase in tariffs on China and also announced that for 75 countries who have called delegates for the United States trade talks, they have authorized the 90-day “stagnation” and a fairly low mutual tariff.
The move by the US President came after a ventilative move in China, where it started its tariffs on US goods from 34 percent to 10 April.
On the issue of Trump’s participation in business talks, Besent clarified that the 90-day period for talks is part of the President’s decision, saying, “President Trump wants to join personally. So we are killing the 90-day plan.”
In response to questions about the scope of talks, Besant said that when business is focused on, other areas are also on the table. He referred to a possible LNG project in Alaska, which is interested in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan financing.
Meanwhile, the press secretary Levit also weighed, saying that the global response shows a change to the US and not to China.
“Many of you in the media clearly missed the ‘art of the deal’; you clearly failed to see what President Trump is doing here. You tried to say that the rest of the world will take closer to China, when in fact, we have seen the opposite effect. The whole world is calling the United States, not China, not China, because he needs our markets,” he said.
Livit concluded President Trump’s long -term view, concluding, “We finally have a President in the White House who are playing long games, which is right for an American worker.”
Earlier today, in an anti -anticipatory step, China announced that it would increase its tariffs on American goods by 34 percent, which would start from April 10 to 84 percent, as reported by Al Jazeera.
The decision increased to 104 percent after increasing the tariff on China on the US, after President Trump’s threat to “additional 50 percent tariff” on Beijing starting on Wednesday.
Trump announced an additional 50 percent tariff on China, when Beijing announced 34 percent tariff in the United States.
