RSS-affiliated trade union opposes 2 labour codes, threatens agitation

NAGPUR: With Centre planning to implement four codes governing labour issues in April, RSS-affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) on Wednesday opposed two codes, dealing with industrial relations and occupational safety, and threatened to hit the streets in protest.
“The industrial relations code entails recognition of only those unions that represent 51% of the workforce. With none in a position to meet the criteria, unions will be wiped out. It was only because of BMS that implementation of codes was put on hold for four years,” (BMS) deputy general secretary Surendra Kumar Pandey said in Nagpur.
Other unions have declared opposition to all four new codes, however, the opposition is a political stand by them, Pandey said.
