Tirana (Albania): Albania gave China a big blow. Albania bans Chinese TikTok company. The country’s prime minister on Saturday announced the closure of the video service “TikTok” for one year, accusing it of promoting violence, especially violence against children. In mid-November, Albanian authorities held 1,300 meetings with teachers and parents after a teenager was stabbed to death by another teenager during a dispute on TikTok.
Prime Minister Edi Rama said TikTok “will be completely shut down for everyone” during a meeting with teachers and parents. Rama said that from now on, TikTok will not be available in the Republic of Albania, a decision that will take effect next year. Meanwhile, TikTok has asked the Albanian government to provide “immediate and clear information” on the case of the stabbed teenager.
Most children in the country use TikTok
The company said there was “no evidence that the perpetrator or victim had a TikTok account,” and multiple reports did confirm that the video associated with the incident was not shared on TikTok, but on another platform. According to local researchers, children have TikTok accounts. The number of TikTok users ranks first in the country. (Associated Press)
