Ajit Pawar has been outspoken about his ambitions for the chief ministership
NCP leader Ajit Pawar has been outspoken about his ambition to become chief minister. Even before the parliamentary elections, he expressed his ambitions. In 2023, Ajit Pawar severed ties with the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar and joined the grand alliance government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Eknath Shinde was appointed as chief minister and Ajit Pawar as deputy chief minister.
Meanwhile, Ghadi is locked in a legal dispute with his uncle Sharad Pawar over the party’s name and election symbol. Ajit Pawar won the battle and received the party’s name and election logo.
After winning the election, Ajit Pawar returned as Deputy Chief Minister.
But the NDA failed in the Lok Sabha elections. The NCP must be content with just one seat. However, Ajit Pawar’s party NCP made a strong comeback in the recent assembly elections. His party contested 57 seats and won 41.
The BJP won 230 seats while Maha Vikas Aghadi had to settle for just 46 seats. As the BJP emerged as the largest party after the elections. So, after the elections, Devendra Fadnavis became the chief minister of the state, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and the National Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar became deputy chief minister.
