Hamida Bano, an Indian woman who has lived in Pakistan for 22 years, returned to her country on Monday through Wagah Border in Lahore. The woman was defrauded by a travel agency and taken to Pakistan. Hamida Bano, 72, was brought to Pakistan on the pretext of working in Dubai. Hamida Bano has been looking for work abroad since the 1990s due to family reasons. She also worked in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for about 9 years and returned to Mumbai from time to time. Meanwhile, one of Vikroli’s agents promised her a good job and a good salary in Dubai and took her on a flight from Mumbai in 2002. Hamida is uneducated so she cannot understand the conspiracy. Three-quarters of the children were married on income from jobs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Hamida’s story was made public by Waliullah Ma’ruf, an activist from Pakistan. Ma’ruf, 29, an imam at a mosque from Manghopir, has made it his mission since 2018 to help people trafficked into Pakistan return to their home country. Ma’ruf conducted an interview with Hamida and posted it on social media in 2022. Indian YouTuber Khalfan shared this. Later, the video was sent to Korla Hamida’s family, and the children cried after seeing it. The kids pulled out his number and made a video call. Since then, this process of video and audio calls has been ongoing, but the story has not progressed further.
But by 2022, Hamida’s story got a lot of coverage in the media, after which all the legal proceedings were completed and now Hamida is finally back in India.
