The Indian Navy is getting a Directorate of Survey Ships so that the Navy will become more powerful.

The Indian Navy will take delivery of another survey vessel ‘Director’ today. It will be commissioned in Visakhapatnam today. Defense Minister Sanjay Seth will preside over the commissioning ceremony in Visakhapatnam. The Indian Navy is today ready to commission its latest survey vessel ‘Director’ at the Visakhapatnam Naval Dockyard.

Commander Eastern Naval Command will also attend the event. INS Sandhyak is the first ship of this class and was commissioned into the Indian Navy on February 3 this year.

Ships showcasing India’s self-reliance

The ship was built by Kolkata-based GRSE using more than 80 per cent indigenous materials, reflecting India’s expertise in ship design and construction and the Indian Navy’s commitment to self-reliance.

The 110-meter-long vessel is powered by two diesel engines, displaces approximately 3,800 tons, and is equipped with state-of-the-art hydrographic and oceanographic surveying equipment.

Large Project Ship No. 2

This is the second vessel in the new ‘Director’ Survey Vessel (Large) project, designed to carry out hydrographic surveys, aid navigation and assist in offshore operations. To some extent, it is considered to be the reincarnation of the previous “director”. Because this earlier ship had served in the Indian Navy for 32 years and was decommissioned on December 19, 2014.

Navy modernizes

In addition to this, the Indian Navy will also have many modern warships by 2027. The construction of the Next Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) equipped with state-of-the-art missiles has begun with the steel cutting ceremony at the Cochin Shipyard. The ship can install 8 BrahMos missiles and 32 missiles to defend against any air attack. The ship’s inclusion in the Indian Navy is likely to increase China and Pakistan’s concerns.
