Today, on the 17th day of the winter session of Parliament, the government will introduce two bills related to One State and one Lok Sabha elections. Both the bills were approved by the federal cabinet on December 12. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will introduce the 129th Constitutional Amendment Bill “One Nation, One Choice”. According to sources, the bill will also be sent to the JPC for approval. However, the BJP and Shiv Sena have issued three-line whips to all MPs. Also required to attend the House of Representatives.
The bill also has support from NDA allies. Allies were seen supporting the government and the bill. The opposition opposes the “one country, one election bill”. Opposition opponents say it is an unnecessary bill that distracts from the real issues. Meanwhile, all Lok Sabha members of the Congress have been given whips and they must attend the important meeting today.
What arguments do the ruling and opposition parties have?
People are debating what an election says for or against a country. Supporters argue it would reduce election costs, while opponents say it is unconstitutional. Supporters say voting will increase, while opponents say accountability will decrease. Supporters believe the code of conduct will be enforced once. Protesters say the government will become authoritarian with elections held every five years. Supporting parties say this will not affect development work, while opposition parties believe this “one country, one election” approach will ignore regional issues.
