December 15, 2024: Pakistani fans and culture lovers came together on Saturday to celebrate the legendary Bollywood actor and filmmaker’s 100th birth anniversary Raj Kapoor. The event is held at Kapoor HaveliHis ancestral home is in Peshawar’s historic Kisar Kawani Bazaar, where Kapoor was born.

Highlights of celebrations were heartfelt cake cutting ceremonysymbolizing the shared cinematic and cultural history between India and Pakistan. The organizer is Cultural Heritage Committee (CHC) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Archeology Departmentthe event highlighted the importance of Kapoor’s legacy and the enduring connection of his birthplace with Indian cinema.

Restoration of Kapoor Haveli
A major announcement marked the occasion: world bank 100 million rupees will be allocated to each person for restoration of ancestral houses Raj Kapoor and bollywood icon Dilip Kumaralso located in Peshawar. Both residences are considered important landmarks, linking the city to the golden age of Indian cinema and cementing its role in nurturing some of Bollywood’s greatest legends.

Rare photos and tributes
Ibrahim ZiaRenowned author and researcher of Indian cinema, presents rare photos of Raj Kapoor during his childhood and adolescence in Peshawar. He detailed Kapoor’s illustrious career, which began in the 1940s, and praised his versatility in genres including romance, comedy and tragedy, which earned him ” “Indian cinema’s greatest performer”.
Kapoor Haveli is located near the ancestral homes of other Bollywood celebrities like Dilip Kumar and Shah Rukh Khanembodies Peshawar’s deep-rooted contribution to the history of Indian cinema. Kumar, known for his naturalistic performances, and modern Bollywood superstar Khan further emphasized the city’s unique connection with generations of film legends.
Call to protect film heritage
Attendees of this event include Mohammad Hussein HaidriSecretary of the Pakistan-Iran Trade and Investment Council called for greater efforts to commemorate Kapoor’s legacy and protect Peshawar’s historical landmarks. They expressed their hope that the Kapoor Haveli, along with other ancestral homes, will become a lasting tribute to the rich cinematic and cultural heritage shared across borders.
