Another case of suicide due to torture by wife and in-laws has come to light in Bengaluru. A 33-year-old police chief committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Byappanahalli on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Thippanna Alugur, working at Hulimavu Police Station (Law and Order). In his suicide note written before committing suicide, Dipana accused his wife Parvati and father-in-law Yamunabha of harassment.
Thippanna is a resident of Handiganur village near Sindagi in North Karnataka’s Vijayapura district. Three years ago, he married Parvati from the same village. He lives in a rental house in Electronic City and has no children. After finishing work on Friday (8 am to 2 pm), Thippanna returns home. There he had a heated argument with his wife Parvati. In the evening, his father-in-law Yamunappa verbally abused him over the phone and allegedly threatened him to commit suicide or be killed.
What was written in the suicide note?
Tipana committed suicide by jumping in front of a train on the tracks between Healalige railway station and Carmelaram railway gate at around 8 pm. According to railway police, Tipana was wearing a police uniform when he committed suicide. In a one-page suicide note written by Dipana in Kannada, he wrote: “I committed suicide because my wife Parvati and father-in-law Yamunapra tortured me.” December 12, 7:26 pm Yamunappa threatened me on the phone for 14 minutes, asking me to die, otherwise he would destroy me so that his daughter could live in peace.

In his suicide note, Dipana also appealed to his friend and teammate Malapa (a Karnataka reserve police personnel) to take care of his official Cheetah bike, which he parked near the Haskul railway track Lakeside. Thippanna’s mother Basamma Alugur lodged a complaint with the Byappanahalli railway police station on Saturday. He accused his daughter-in-law Parvati and father-in-law Yamunabha of torture and inciting suicide. Police said notices will be issued to the accused asking them to record their statements. The police are currently involved in the investigation.
