Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee
One of the two women MPs who received high praise from Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was Tamil Nadu leader and later chief minister Jai Jha. Jayalalitha and the other is West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She also later became the chief minister. Both men first entered parliament in 1984. Mamata Banerjee is in the Lok Sabha and Jayalalitha is in the Union House. Well, Mamata won the Congress seat and also defeated veteran CPI(M) leader Somnath Chatterjee. Even then, he was considered the leader of the Fire Cards. In any case, beating Somnath Chatterjee was not a normal thing. So does the youngest leader.
Jayalalithaa is famous for her film appearances. He has also acted in many Tamil films and entered the Hindi film industry. The Tamil leader is fluent in English and Hindi and is also the secretary of the AIADMK. Chief Minister MG Ramachandran sent him to Delhi as he was fluent in English.
Mamata is delivering oxygen to Congress
Mamata Banerjee, on the other hand, was clumsy in Hindi then but fluent in English and Bengali. Both of them won the heart of Rajiv Gandhi with their skills. Rajiv Gandhi supported him in every aspect. Mamata Banerjee has been making headlines in the media both inside and outside Parliament due to her combative nature. She is determined to overthrow the CPI(M) government of Jyoti Vasu, which has been ruling West Bengal for the past few years. At that time, there were too many big leaders of the Congress party in West Bengal and Mamata had no say in front of them, but Mamata Banerjee continued to intimidate the state government. Until then, all Congress leaders bowed to the CPI(M) government. In any case, the Congress party has lost power in Bengal since 1977 and has no hope of regaining power. That’s why Rajiv liked him.
Bengal lioness’ enemies are within her own ranks
Jayalalitha hails from a regional party and is fighting against Karunanidhi’s DMK in her home state of Tamil Nadu. At that time, his party AIADMK was in power in the state and MG Ramachandran was the chief minister. Whatever help she wants from the Center for her government, Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi will help her. Instead, Mamata Banerjee has to fight against the CPI(M) government, the established leaders of the Congress party in West Bengal and the old leaders of the party high command. He didn’t like the young leader’s aggressiveness and his excessive speaking in Parliament, so he tried to lower Mamata Banerjee’s status, but the Bengali lioness developed a better relationship with Rajiv Gandhi , and used it as an excuse to build a better relationship with Sonia Gandhi.
Far from Rao but closer to Sonia
Mamta lost the 1989 elections. Malini Bhattacharya of the CPI(M) defeated him but her front against the CPI(M) government remained open with the same zeal. In the Lok Sabha elections held two years later, she again won the Kolkata (South) seat. From here she continued to attend parliament in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2009. In 1991, after the formation of the PV Narasimha Rao government, he was appointed Minister of State for Youth and Sports in the Ministry of Human Resources. She also runs the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare, but Mamata is not a sit-down politician. In 1993, she held a rally at a Kolkata hotel to protest against the government’s sports policies. In a way, it was an open protest against the Narasimha Rao government. The farther she got from Rao, the closer she got to Sonia.
I vowed never to step into the Writer’s Building
The announcement of cleanliness in Parliament started to upset Mamata Rao. He alleged that the Congress leaders in West Bengal were very weak towards the CPI(M) government in West Bengal. He had previously vowed not to set foot in the Kolkata Writers Building. In fact, in December 1992, she took a disabled girl, Deepali Basak, to meet Chief Minister Jyoti Vasu. The allegation was that a CPI(M) worker raped her. Mamata Banerjee misbehaved there and was arrested by the police. She had then said that she would step into Writers Tower only after the CPI(M) government was overthrown. When her party TMC came to power, she stayed true to her oath, climbed the stairs of Writers’ Building and was elected as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 20, 2011.
Establishing TMC and support base in Bangladesh
At the same time, there was a lot of turmoil surrounding him within Congress. West Bengal MPs want to expel him from the party, while other stalwarts want to attack him. But Sonia Gandhi remained silent. Even then, she was clearly detached from Congress. His relationship with West Bengal Congress president Somendra Nath Mitra became so bad that he left the Congress party in 1997. He formed the Trinamool Congress. Mukul Roy went with him then. Soon, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) emerged as the main opposition party to the CPI(M) government in West Bengal. On December 11, 1998, Samajwadi Party Ombudsman Prasad Saroj had a dispute with him in the Lok Sabha over the Women’s Reservation Bill. As a result, TMC was promoted at all levels in India.
Joining and exiting NDA games
She was determined to join the New Democratic Alliance government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party and became Railway Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government in 2000. She was the first woman railway minister in independent India. When he presented the railway budget, he gave priority to West Bengal. He opened a new Rajdhani Express between Cedar and Delhi. And Delhi-Howrah, the capital of Kolkata, already exists. And he benefited from it. She became stronger in Bengal. His support base is growing rapidly. Later, he and Ajit Kumar Panj resigned from Vajpayee’s cabinet due to rising oil prices. She contested the 2001 parliamentary elections with the Congress Party. By then Sonia Gandhi had been elected Congress President. Mamata Banerjee is believed to have taken the decision at his request.
NDA suffered another setback in 2004
Mamta is a very smart politician. His aim was to liberate West Bengal from the CPI (Maoist) at any cost. However, in October 2010, Jyoti Vasu voluntarily resigned from the post of Chief Minister and Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was appointed as the new Chief Minister. The Communist Party of India (M) contested and won the 2001 parliamentary elections under his leadership. In September 2003, Mamata returned to the NDA and soon joined Vajpayee’s cabinet along with Sudeep Bandipadiya. This time he got the coal ministry. He refused to be sold to National Aluminum. She remained in this position till the Vajpayee government came to power. He also lost his support base by joining the Vajpayee government. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC could get only one seat (Mamata Banerjee herself). In 2004, the TMC also lost control of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (now Calcutta).
Friendship with UPA and close relationship with Sonia Gandhi
After this, Mamata Banerjee once again decided to roar in Bengal itself, vehemently opposing the industrial policies of Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. He created a sensation in Singur and Nandigram. The government cannot acquire land for Tata Nano car. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Mamata Banerjee supported the Congress-led UP alliance. This alliance won 26 seats. This alliance is auspicious for Mamata. She served as a minister in the Manmohan government and again as Railway Minister. Next year, the TMC acquired a majority stake in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Bidhan city is also under TMC control. Finally, Mamata Banerjee’s wish came true in the 2011 parliamentary elections. He overthrew the 34-year-old CPI(M) government and was sworn in as chief minister on May 20, 2011. This is his third term.
Mamta and Sonia Gandhi’s chemistry is a hit
The chemistry between Mamata Banerjee and Sonia Gandhi has always been great. He benefited from the support of UPA. Sonia Gandhi always respected him as UPA president. Mamata Banerjee has been at odds with the Congress leaders in West Bengal, but Sonia Gandhi has stayed away from it. But Rahul Gandhi was always uneasy with him. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a meeting in Patna to rally opposition parties against the BJP. Later, at the Bangalore conference, this front of 26 political parties came to be known as India. This alliance also achieved success in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP was reduced to just 240 seats. However, before the election, Nitish Kumar had joined the NDA alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, so India was unable to form a government, but this gave the BJP a shock.
Arguing with Rahul Gandhi about India
Mamata Banerjee gave the name India but Congress claims that the name was given by Rahul Gandhi. After this, the relationship between Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee began to sour. Perhaps it is also because Rahul Gandhi wants to have the upper hand everywhere. Many parties in the alliance cannot accept this. Especially after the Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi is no longer as crazy as before. Now there is a battle for leadership of the alliance. Mamta Banerjee said she can run the alliance and therefore the leadership of the alliance should be given to her. Uddhav Thackeray, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav and Omar Abdullah agree. But Rahul Gandhi denied the existence of Mamata outside Bengal. That’s why Congress claimed his name.
Laddus falls into the hands of BJP
The BJP is benefiting from the ongoing differences between Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi. TMC is the third largest party in the opposition. Its figures rank behind the Congress Party and the Socialist Party. It has 28 Lok Sabha members. Since the Congress is an all-India party, it has 99 MPs and the Samajwadi Party has 37 MPs. No one is in a mood to accept Rahul Gandhi’s bullying now. That is why the BJP is now cornering the Congress in the name of George Soros. He accused Congress of weakening the country at the behest of U.S. billionaire George Soros.
