There is big news for Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vi users. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India will implement the new rules from December 10, 2024 (i.e. tomorrow). TRAI’s new rule will be OTP traceability. The implementation of this rule will be of great help in detecting spam text messages on mobile phones. TRAI had initially planned to implement the rule on December 1.
Jio, Airtel, BSNL and VI deadline ends
On the request of telcos, TRAI gave service providers 10 days to implement OTP traceability technology, which is now nearing completion. Let us tell you that the deadline for this rule was earlier fixed as October 31 but was later extended to November 30.
TRAI gives instructions for implementation of the technology
OTP related or other business messages cannot be traced due to lack of traceability system. Scammers and hackers take advantage of this and make people fall victim to fraud. Keeping this in mind, the telecom regulator has directed the implementation of this technology to trace the origin of commercial messages sent in bulk by different service providers.
TRAI says this about OTP latency
After TRAI’s OTP tracking rules are implemented, fake text messages and fake phone calls can be easily tracked. It was also discussed earlier that OTT messages for important purposes like banking may take some time to be delivered (OTP delivery delay) due to the implementation of traceability rules, but later TRAI clarified this. Under the new rules, OTP will be available immediately.
After traceability is achieved, messages that have not been registered will be blocked. A big advantage of this is that users will be able to easily identify promotions. According to TRAI, more than 27,000 leading institutions have registered for it. At the same time, the speed of the registration process is also increasing. This TRAI rule can bring great changes to the direction of secure and transparent communication.
