The Foreign Secretary’s visit to Dhaka on December 9 comes amid continued attacks on minorities in the neighboring country, including Hindus, and tensions with Bangladesh. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jaiswal said that Misri will go to Bangladesh to attend a meeting under the consultation framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Spokesperson Jaiswal said, “The Foreign Secretary will visit Bangladesh on Monday (December 9) to attend a consultation meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “This is part of the structured negotiations we are having with the Bangladesh side. ” Jaiswal was responding to a question at the weekly media briefing.

Regarding the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that India looks forward to a fair, just and transparent legal process in this case. He said: “We have also discussed this issue earlier. We would like to reiterate that we expect the relevant legal procedures in Bangladesh to be followed in a fair, just and transparent manner so that the legitimate rights and interests of the relevant persons can be fully respected.”

India expresses concern over attack

After the Hasina government stepped down and the interim government led by Yunus came to power, relations between India and Bangladesh deteriorated and tensions emerged. India has been concerned about continued attacks by neighboring countries against minorities, especially Hindus. The number of attacks against minority groups such as Bangladesh’s Hindu community has increased rapidly in the past few months.

India said last week that Bangladesh’s interim government should fulfill its responsibility to protect all minorities. It also expressed serious concern over the rising rhetoric of extremist groups and violence against Hindus.
