delhi high court
The Delhi High Court has asked the central government to clarify its stand on the petition of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. This thing has to do with Rahul Gandhi. A petition has been filed seeking a decision on Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship. Acting Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela expressed their views orally.
In this case, the counsel appearing for the central government before the High Court was asked to follow the government’s instructions. In the present case, the court made it clear that any order would be passed only after assistance from government lawyers in the matter.
Time required to appoint new lawyer
The court said initially they could have issued notice on the petition but now the government has sought time to appoint a new lawyer in the case. He said the center’s attorney told the court that the lawyer who had previously represented the government in the case had been appointed as senior advocate and therefore he had sought time to appoint a new lawyer in the case.
When is the next hearing?
The petition stated that on August 6, 2019, Subramanian Swamy wrote a letter to the ministry in which he stated that he (Gandhi) was a British citizen and was entitled to hold a passport in the UK. Subramanian Swamy said he had sent several representations to the ministry to inquire about the status of his complaint. Even after all this time, we still have not taken any action on this matter and have not received any information about this matter. The next hearing in the case will be held on January 13, 2025.
