Bangalore: There has been an uproar after the decomposing body of a woman was found in a drain on the outskirts of Karnataka state capital Bangalore. Days after the incident, police arrested the woman’s husband from Bihar on charges of murder, officials said on Friday. He told reporters that the accused Mohammad Naseem, 39, a painter, had been arrested from Muzaffarpur. The incident took place in the Sarjapur police station area on November 11, police said.
“We used to quarrel over trivial matters.”
According to police, Naseem and his second wife Rumesh Khatoon, 22, often quarreled over trivial matters. The relationship between Naseem and Rumesh was tense because Rumesh was suspicious of his wife. Police said it was because of things like this that Naseem decided to get rid of his wife. A senior police officer said Naseem strangled Rumesh, tied his hands and feet with wires and threw the body into a sewer. He said that after killing his wife, he fled with his six children to his hometown of Muzaffarpur in Bihar state.
“Escaped to Bihar with 6 children”
According to police, the incident came to light a week later after local residents reported a foul smell emanating from the sewers. Later, the police discovered the woman’s decomposing body and conducted an autopsy. The police officer said that during the investigation, after the body was identified, it was discovered that the husband of the deceased was missing and had escaped with his six children. Naseem has 4 children from his first marriage and 2 children from his second marriage to Rumesh Khatoon.
This is how the police arrested the defendant
Investigators used technical evidence and mobile phone “location” to track the accused to Muzaffarpur, police said. Surprisingly, just days after arriving in Muzaffarpur and before being caught by the police, the accused had already married for the third time. “A case has been registered against the accused and he was arrested from Muzaffarpur last week on suspicion of murder,” police said.
