Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar made an important statement on Sunday. He said some of the heroes of the freedom struggle had been unfairly treated in the history books. History has been tampered with to attribute credit to a few selected individuals. To awaken patriotic feelings in future generations, historical information must be presented unabashedly. Meanwhile, the Vice President also called for dialogue with farmers to resolve the issue.
Addressing the 138th birth anniversary celebrations of Raja Mahendra Pratap in Delhi, the Vice President said the country cannot enrich its history by calling people who played historical roles sycophants. We cannot belittle our heroes. Talking about farmers, he said we must remember that we are not fighting our own people.
“Only a few are mentioned for their contribution to the achievement of independence”
He said history had been tampered with by mentioning only the contribution of a few in achieving independence as if it was their monopoly. It troubles our consciences and becomes a burden on our souls and hearts. It is a travesty of justice that we tragically fail to acknowledge the heroic deeds of people like Raja Mahendra Pratap.
The Vice President further stated that if you look at the foundation of our country’s independence, we were educated very differently. The foundation of our country’s independence was built on the immense sacrifice of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh and other unknown or lesser-known heroes.
“…How can anyone sleep?”
He said that for farmers, who can sleep unless their problems are solved immediately? He stressed that taking an intransigent stance in conflict situations is bad diplomacy.
