ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had to host the ICC Champions Trophy in February-March 2025, but after the BCCI refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan, the ICC considered hosting it in a hybrid mode. However, the PCB is not yet ready to host the tournament in this manner, so the schedule for the Champions Trophy is yet to be announced. On November 29, the ICC held a meeting with the PCB and BCCI to try to reach a consensus on the hybrid model, but the ICC did not make any announcement. Now that such news has come out, the ICC has responded to the PCB in its own language.
ICC Warning PCB
The ICC has now issued a warning to the PCB regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy, wherein according to news agency PTI, the ICC has clearly told the PCB to either accept the hybrid format or kick it out of the tournament. After a virtual meeting on November 29, the ICC postponed its decision to November 30. An ICC board source said in a statement to Press Trust of India (PTI) on condition of anonymity that no broadcaster will pay a single penny for any ICC event that the Indian team does not participate in and Pakistan is aware of this. Now, the ICC meeting will be held on November 30 only if PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi agrees to the hybrid model.
The tournament can be held even without Pakistan
International Cricket Federation board sources further said in the statement that if Pakistan is not ready to accept the hybrid model, then a decision can be taken to host the Champions Trophy in other countries, which may also be the UAE and that too without Pakistan. All eyes are now on the ICC meeting on November 30, where some major decisions are likely to be taken.
