A depression in the southwestern Bay of Bengal turned into a cyclonic storm on Friday afternoon. The information was provided by the India Meteorological Department on Friday. The cyclonic storm named ‘Fengal’ is likely to reach near Puducherry on the afternoon of November 30. During this period, wind speeds can reach 90 kilometers per hour.
Will land on Saturday afternoon
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a deep depression formed in the southwestern Bay of Bengal is likely to transform into a cyclone. The system is currently concentrated 380 kilometers southeast of Chennai. Once it turns into a cyclone, it is likely to move northwest and make landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram on Saturday afternoon.
There will be heavy rain in these areas
The meteorological department said the cyclonic storm has been officially named “Style”. Heavy rain is expected to occur in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Friday and Saturday. Meanwhile, districts like Nellore, Chittoor, Tirupati and Annamaya are likely to receive heavy rains.
Fishermen should stay away from beaches
The IMD also issued a warning for strong winds with speeds of up to 75 kilometers per hour in the southern coastal areas. Fishermen are strictly advised not to venture into the sea. Fishermen already in the sea are urged to return to shore immediately.
Port Special Alert
Phase III alert has been issued for Krishnapatnam and Nizapatnam ports in Andhra Pradesh due to cyclonic storm Style. The first phase alert has been issued for other ports in Andhra Pradesh.
