Pakistan lost the first ODI match by 80 runs. Sam Ayub became the first batsman in the history of ODI cricket to score when his team scored less than 150 runs. No batsman before him could score 150 runs as a team in ODIs. Zimbabwe batted first and scored 145 runs. While chasing the target, Pakistan scored 148 runs and won the match.

Sam Ayub will not make his ODI debut for Pakistan until 2024. Since then, he has scored a total of 436 runs in 7 ODI matches so far. He also played 6 Test matches and 23 T20 internationals for Pakistan.
