Pakistan create history under captain Mohammad Rizwan, ending 13-year drought in one fell swoop

The Pakistan cricket team is currently touring Zimbabwe. The team is playing three ODI matches there. This series is very important in preparation for the Champions Trophy. However, Zimbabwe surprised Pakistan by defeating them in the first match. Although the result of that game was canceled by DLS due to rain, the Zimbabwean team would have won even if the game was completed. But now Pakistan has won the second game and the series is tied. This victory for Pakistan was not ordinary, but this win under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan was historic. Pakistan struggles to end approximately 13 years of drought.

Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 10 wickets

Led by captain Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan won the match by 10 wickets. Prior to this, Pakistan won an ODI match by ten wickets 13 years ago, in 2011. A victory of this magnitude had not materialized between then and now, but now it has happened under Rizwan’s leadership. Interestingly, if you include this win, Pakistan have won only 5 ODI matches so far by a margin of 10 wickets.

This was Pakistan’s fifth ODI win by 10 wickets.

In 1986, Pakistan defeated New Zealand in Sharjah to achieve their first ODI victory by ten wickets. After that, he had to wait for a long time. In 2008, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 10 wickets at home in Karachi. The team has since accomplished the feat twice in 2011. First, the team defeated West Indies by 10 wickets in Mirpur, and then defeated Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in Harare. After 2011, in 2024, Pakistan won an ODI match by 10 wickets, making the victory even more special.

Sam Ayub scores a brilliant century

Talking about the match, Zimbabwe, who batted first, scored 145 runs for the loss of 10 wickets. The team couldn’t even complete its quota of 50 overs, finishing with just 32.3 overs. No batsman has been able to cross the 50-run mark. After this, Pakistan’s victory seemed close. But I didn’t expect the team to win the game unscathed. In the first match, Pakistan scored 148 runs in just 18.2 overs without conceding a single point and won the match. Sam Ayub scored 113 runs in just 62 balls. Abdullah Shafiq, on the other hand, played an important role in the team’s victory by scoring 32 runs off 48 balls in an important innings.
