A hearing was held on Tuesday at Drillos Avenue Courthouse into an alleged scam involving land in exchange for railroad jobs. In the meantime, the CBI told the court that authorities have approved prosecution of 30 government employees in the case. The investigating agency also said it was still awaiting permission to prosecute one of the defendants. In this case, the CBI has obtained approval to prosecute former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. The next hearing in the case will be held on December 23.
The case in which Lalu Prasad Yadav was accused of exchanging work for land took place between 2004 and 2009. Lalu Yadav was the Union Railway Minister at that time. Apart from Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi, his two daughters (Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav) and 12 others were also accused in the case. According to CBI allegations, there were irregularities in the large-scale recruitment work of the railways during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister.

It is alleged that during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as minister, the applicant’s land and plots were confiscated in exchange for getting a job in the Railways. The land seized from the petitioner is said to have been acquired in the name of Lalu’s wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misha Bharat. The CBI has sought permission to investigate former Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasa. De Yadav filed a lawsuit. Approval has been obtained from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Approval of prosecution against defendant
At a hearing on November 7, the Louth Avenue Court directed the competent authorities to prosecute and impose sanctions on the civil servants accused in connection with the “Job Change” case within a week. The court had issued this direction when the CBI told the court that it was awaiting approval from the competent railway authorities. It can take up to two weeks to get approval.
CBI special prosecutor DP Singh told the court that he had been informed that it might take another two weeks to get approval for prosecution. In the meantime, the court said it has put pressure on the competent authorities to expedite the process. Three charge sheets and two supplementary charge sheets have been filed in court. The court directed that the approval should be given by the competent authority within a week. The court is scheduled to hear the case again on November 26.
