PTI Protest: Uproar in Pakistan, 6 security personnel killed; more than 100 soldiers injured

Islamabad: Protests by supporters of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan turned violent, leaving four paramilitaries and two police officers dead. More than 100 security personnel were also injured in the violence. Government media has disclosed this information. As a result of the violence, the government has deployed troops in the capital and ordered gangsters to be shot on sight.

Supporters of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are dismantling roadblocks on the road leading to the D-Chowk location in Islamabad. Four officers of Pakistan’s Rangers were killed by a car on the Srinagar Expressway in Islamabad late on Monday night, while five other personnel and several policemen were seriously injured, Radio Pakistan reported. According to Radio Pakistan, some militants, heavily armed, threw stones at Rangers soldiers at Customs No. 26 in Rawalpindi and fired at security personnel indiscriminately. It also noted that two police officers were killed.

What did Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif say?

A policeman was killed in a clash with PTI protesters at Hakra Junction on the outskirts of Islamabad on Monday, according to Punjab police. In addition, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told the media late last night that more than a hundred security personnel, mostly police officers, were injured. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement that “a senior police officer was seriously injured and suffered serious head injuries due to stones thrown by protesters” and he strongly condemned the attacks on rangers and police by protesters.
