The CBI on Thursday held a hearing on the appeal filed by Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik in person. During the hearing, the Supreme Court mentioned terrorist Ajmal Kasab. The Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also been asked to file a revised petition within a week and allow all the accused persons related to the case to be made parties. The next hearing in the case will be held on November 28.
During the hearing of the case, Deputy Inspector General of the CBI Tushar Mehta, who was present in the case, said that the Jammu special court had said that it was against him and he should appear in person. We don’t want to take Yasin Malik to Jammu and Kashmir. In this regard, Justice Abhay S Oka said, but how can the cross-examination be conducted in VC (video conferencing)?
The secretary general said if he insists on appearing in person, the case should be transferred to Delhi. Yassin Malik is not an ordinary terrorist, the SG said. Justice Oka said please take instructions on how many witnesses there are in the case.
Even Kasab received a fair trial
The Supreme Court said that even Ajmal Kasab received a fair trial in our country. SG said the government cannot act by the book on such issues. Yasin frequently traveled to Pakistan and shared the stage with Hafiz Saeed. The Supreme Court said, yes, a court can be set up in jail and it can be conducted there. The Supreme Court allowed the CBI to file the revised petition. In addition, all defendants related to the case were also required to form a party within a week.
In fact, the whole thing is related to the murder of four Air Force personnel in 1990. On January 25, 1990, a group of terrorists led by Yasin Malik opened fire on Indian Air Force personnel in Srinagar. Four soldiers were killed and 40 others injured in the attack. Malik was the leader of the terrorist organization JKLF at the time. Malik was arrested in 1990. He was released in 1994. In 1995, the High Court stayed his case. After his release, Malik split the JKLF.
