November 19, 2024: Akshay Kumar talks about his alleged Rs 145-crore salary and acting fees
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, often regarded as one of the highest-paid actors in India, opened up about his salary at the HT Leadership Summit 2024. The actor is known for delivering blockbusters and reportedly earns between Rs 60 crore and Rs 145 crore per film, according to Forbes. Akshay, however, clarified the nature of his earnings, stressing on the fairness of the remuneration.
No upfront fees, profit sharing model
Responding to rumors about actors inflating the film’s budget, Akshay revealed:
“If we sign a movie today, we don’t charge a fee; we just take a stake. If it’s successful, we get a share of the profits. If we don’t, we don’t get the money.”
The actor explained that this model ensures fairness and aligns the success of the film with the actors’ compensation.
Ajay Devgn, a member of the panel, echoed Akshay’s sentiments, saying:
“Actors get paid based on the script, the movie, the project. Most of us get paid based on recovery.”
The risk and passion behind the model
Akshay explains that if a movie doesn’t perform well, actors often forego their paycheck entirely:
“Sometimes, there’s no share either. Then you have to give up on price. It’s also passion.”
High salary rumors
