The mega auction of IPL 2025 will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia this month, on November 24 and 25. Many star players including Rishabh Pant will be spotlighted in this mega auction. Recently, when the teams announced their respective retention lists, Rishabh Pant’s name was not included in Delhi Capitals’ list. It is clear that Delhi has released Pant. Many people were surprised by this decision of Delhi Capitals. Fans were also outraged by Delhi’s move and took to social media to express their displeasure. Now there is a big reveal about this matter.
In fact, Star Sports shared a video ahead of the IPL mega auction in which cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar talks about wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s return Possibility of return to Delhi Capitals. In this video, Gavaskar said that when a player has to be retained, there are a lot of discussions between the team and the player on salary issues. We’ve all seen that some retained players get more money than the first-place retainer. So he feels there might be some differences between Pant and Delhi but I think DC definitely want Rishabh Pant back in their team as they need a captain.
Rishabh Pant reacted soon after Sunil Gavaskar’s video was posted on social media. Responding to the video, Rishabh Pant wrote that he can safely say that his retention has nothing to do with money.
Rishabh Pant has been playing for Delhi Capitals since the first season of IPL 2016. Even though he was injured in a road accident in 2022, Delhi retained him. However, Delhi released Pant ahead of IPL 2025. Delhi ignored its captain Rishabh Pant and retained Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and Abhishek Porel.
