Protests after six deaths

Sources said on Saturday that their bodies were found on Friday night near a river in a remote village of Girimukh in Giribam district on the Manipur-Assam border. The body was brought to Assam’s Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) on Friday evening and kept at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Three women and three children living in a relief camp went missing last Monday after security forces exchanged fire with terrorists in the Jiribam district. The Ming Ting group claimed that terrorists had kidnapped them.
Attack on Borobekra district police station

AFSPA is implemented in six police station districts of Manipur
The Center on Thursday re-implemented the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in six police stations of Manipur including Giribam. The Federal Ministry of the Interior emphasized that the decision was taken in the light of the continued instability caused by ongoing ethnic violence. Addressing the issue, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi after leaving office to visit conflict-torn regions and work in this direction.

The residence of the chief minister’s son-in-law was attacked
Police said the protesters also targeted the residence of Y Khemchand, municipal housing development minister of Singjamei area in Imphal West district. In Sagolband area of ​​Imphal West district, protesters gathered in front of the residence of BJP MLA RK Imo and raised slogans. Imo Chief Minister N. He is also the son-in-law of Biren Singh. He asked the government to take appropriate action and urged authorities to arrest the perpetrators within 24 hours.
House of BJP MLA vandalized
A senior police officer said mobs vandalized the house of a BJP legislator and set his property on fire. Protesters also attacked the residence of BJP MLA Sapam Kunjakesor in Imphalsitra and damaged his properties, another official said. A car parked outside the MLA’s residence was also set on fire.
Encounter with security forces
The residence of another BJP MP Joykishan Singh at Thangmeiband in the district was also vandalized, police said. Protesters also occupied the residences of BJP MLA T Arun from Wangkhei constituency and BJP MLA Karam Shyam from Langthabal. Meanwhile, police said suspected militants had a brief encounter with security forces in Ilumbam Manning area of ​​Bishnupur district. He said there were no casualties in the incident.
Call on Center to cancel AFSPA
The Manipur government has asked the Center to review and repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in the six police stations of the state. The Center has re-implemented AFSPA in six police station districts of Manipur, including violence-hit Jiribam.
The letter written by the Joint Secretary (Home) to the central government mentioned that the state governments had discussed the matter (reintroduction of AFSPA) in a meeting on November 15 and the central government should review and inform the six state governments. The decision recommended that the area within the police station be declared a disturbed area under section 3 of AFSPA 1958.
Therefore, the letter requested that the notification issued on November 14 should be reviewed and withdrawn in the public interest. On November 14, the Home Ministry re-implemented AFSPA in Sekmai and Lamsang in Imphal West district, Lamlai in Imphal East district, Moirang in Bishnupur, Limakhong in Kangpokpi and Giribaam areas in Giribam district.
