MP Chandrashekhar
Azad Samaj Party national president Chandrashekhar Azad on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling on bulldozing. Speaking about the court’s verdict, Chandrashekhar pointed the finger at the BJP and said the Supreme Court had shown the reality to the government.
Azad said that as long as the country still has a judiciary, no government should consider itself a dictator. He said if the Supreme Court takes action against officials who bulldoze land without proving any crime to please the government, then no one will do such a thing in future.
Targeted CM Yogi
Attacking Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Chandrashekhar said the chief minister’s job is to provide security to the people, but the chief minister is trying to scare people with slogans like “Bantege-Katenge”. Referring to the ongoing student movement in Prayagraj in the state, he said it was an anti-youth government of the BJP.
Azad questioned the government and said when the central government is considering holding elections simultaneously across the country, why can’t the state governments take turns to conduct the review.
Supreme Court bans bulldozer operation
The Supreme Court, while delivering its verdict on the bulldozing operation on Wednesday, said the punishment for the crime was not demolition of the houses. Justices Gawai and Vishwanathan warned the state governments and said the governments cannot become judges. Punishing criminals is the job of the courts, not the police and administration. The court said the government could not punish any of the defendants or their families pending a court ruling.
Many people, including Jamiat-e-Ulema Hind, filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the bulldozing operations of the Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments and sought a ban. The case has been pending in court for the past few months.
