London: British writer Samantha Harvey wins the 2024 Booker Prize. The prize was awarded to his “ambitious and beautiful” novel “Orbit.” Now let us tell you what this author’s orbital novel won the 2024 Booker Prize is about. The work received a $64,000 literary award. At this point, it became the first space novel in the world to win such a huge prize.
Its entire story is set in space. This year, there are more female writers nominated for the award. “Orbit” is based on a day in the life of six astronauts aboard the International Space Station, who watched 16 of Earth’s sunrises and sunsets in orbit behind the continent. The novel was announced as the winner at a ceremony at Old Billingsgate in the City of London on Tuesday night. Harvey dedicated his award to everyone who “speaks for the planet,” saying: “My first thought was why would anyone on Earth want to hear stories about space from women, and imagine when there are people in space. So how would they feel?
The novel has 136 pages
At only 136 pages, the novel is the second shortest among the award-winning novels. The award’s judging panel includes award-winning British Indian musician Nitin Sawhney, novelist Sarah Collins, Guardian fiction editor Justin Jordan and American Li Yiyun, a Chinese-American writer and professor. Harvey received a $64,000 bonus. He began writing the novel during the lockdown imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Harvey, who has previously written four novels and a book about insomnia, is the first British writer to win the Booker Prize since 2020.
She is also the first woman to win the Booker Prize since 2019. The Booker Prize was established in 1969 and is awarded to novels originally published in English in the United Kingdom or Ireland. Last year, Irish writer Paul Lynch won the award. (Associated Press)
