Kyiv: After Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, Ukraine carried out massive drone strikes on Russian weapons depots. Ukrainian drones struck an arms factory in central Russia overnight, a source in Ukraine’s SBU security service told Reuters on Saturday. The attack hit the Alexinsky chemical plant in the Tula region, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) south of Moscow, which produces gunpowder, ammunition and weapons, the sources said. The attack was part of a strategy to target factories supporting Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
SBU sources said attacks on Russia’s military-industrial complex, its “weapons warehouses, military airports and enterprises have reduced Russia’s ability to intimidate Ukraine.” The sources did not provide any estimate of the damage caused to the Alexinsky plant. The Russian state news agency TASS reported that the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian troops shot down 50 Ukrainian drones in seven regions of Russia at night. As the war against Russia enters its 1,000th day, Ukraine is at a disadvantage facing a larger and better-equipped enemy on the battlefield.
Ukrainian villages also destroyed by Russian attacks
Russian attacks also caused massive damage to Ukrainian villages. Russian troops are advancing in eastern Donetsk. They are breaking through Ukrainian defenses and destroying cities and villages there with guided air bombs and artillery. Ukraine’s General Staff said on Saturday that the situation on the front lines was complex, with more than 170 war clashes reported in the past 24 hours, most of them in the east. Ukrainian officials said attacks on Russian military installations, warehouses and airports would disrupt logistics and supplies for Moscow’s forces. It would also help turn the tide of the war in Ukraine’s favor. Since September last year, Ukraine has used Ukrainian-made long-range drones to attack multiple Russian ammunition depots, according to Ukrainian security officials. (Reuters)
