In Punjab, there has been controversy over government teachers forcing a halt to stubble burning. Action is being prepared against teachers who failed to stop cases of stubble burning in the district and failed to prepare and send reports of stubble burning cases. A notice has been issued to them. The Punjab Teachers Democratic Front opposed this.
For the first time, 9,492 employees from different departments were dispatched to the scene to pay attention to the straw burning incident in Punjab. The personnel on duty include 80 SDMs, 102 Tehsildars, 2796 Patwaris, 122 DSPs, 1389 cluster officers, 4965 nodal officers and 38 assistant executive engineers. Government teachers are also assigned to perform tasks in many districts.
Notified 3 teachers of failure to submit reports
A total of 90 teachers were deployed to carry out the task. At the same time, notices have been issued to three teachers who have not submitted their reports. The Punjab government has issued show-cause notices to these teachers. Teachers were asked to explain why they were unable to stop farmers from burning stubble. The Punjab Democratic Teachers’ Front said that about 90 teachers were asked to supervise the burning of stubble in villages, which was a joke on the future of students.
A teacher’s job is to educate children
The teacher should be relieved of such duties and the notification withdrawn. Punjab politics has also begun to take notice. Opposition parties in Punjab say teachers’ job is to educate children, not to stop farmers from burning stubble.
Shiromani Akali Dal spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema, former Punjab education minister, and Congress MP Pargat Singh, former education minister, said the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab has completely failed in stubble management and the orders issued to teachers are completely wrong. So far, there has been no reaction from the Punjab government on the matter.
