Indian Hotels Co. Ltd has signed an agreement to operate New Delhi’s historic The Claridges hotel from April on a 25-year management contract, a major move by the Tata Group to strengthen its portfolio of owners of similar iconic hotels. part of the metropolitan influence strategy.
Indian Hotels will retain The Claridges brand while renovating the hotel that opened in 1952 in the heart of the Indian capital.
“The hotel is a renowned landmark in Lutyens Delhi and an opportunity for us to grow our brand presence here,” Puneet Chhatwal, managing director and CEO of Indian Hotels, said in an interview. ” Mint.
“This (brand) provides us with an opportunity to evaluate the expansion of our brand ecosystem in the luxury segment. Indian Hotels has 17 hotels in the National Capital Region of Delhi, including Taj Mahal, Taj Palace, Ambassador Hotel and Connaught Hotel in south and central Delhi.
Three more hotels are under development, a 380-room hotel next to International Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport, a 225-room hotel on Sohna Road and a 160-room hotel in Gurgaon Vivanta Hotel.
“We will have multiple opportunities in the region to expand our hotel portfolio,” Chatwal told CNN Mint Earlier this year, it was announced that Indian Hotels would have 200 hotels in the country by December, compared with 184 operational hotels at that time.

The Claridges was purchased by businessman Suresh Nanda and his family in 2003 and has 119 rooms. The Nanda family later developed the Vivanta Surajkund estate in the National Capital Region of Delhi, which is also managed by Indian Hotels.
The Nanda family also owns The SeaRock Hotel in Mumbai, which the Taj Group acquired from them in 2009. The Nanda family also owns the Nabha Palace Hotel in Mussoorie.

Earlier this week, Indian Hotels expanded its stake in Tree of Life Resorts & Hotels with an investment $180 million rupees to acquire 55% stake in its parent company, Rajscape Hotels Pvt. Tree of Life manages 16 boutique hotels across India.
In November last year, Kolkata-based Ambuja Neotia Group acquired Gurgaon-based Rajscape Hotels, a hotel ownership and management company affiliated with Ambuja Neotia Hotel Ventures Ltd, a subsidiary of Ambuja Neotia Holdings Pvt. Ltd.
Mint Reports later suggested that Indian Hotels Group may take over the management of these hotels.
