Continuing its fight against drugs and alcohol, the Lamblu Gram Panchayat of Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district has decided to pay tribute to those families who do not serve liquor and other intoxicants during their marriage ceremonies. Village chief Kartar Singh Chauhan announced the decision at the Panchayat meeting on Tuesday. The gram panchayat, known for its charity work, has decided to punish those who smoke or drink alcohol.
The goal is to make Lamblu Gram Panchayat drug-free
Chouhan said on Wednesday that a campaign is underway to make Lamblu Gram Panchayat drug-free. He said most panchayat families have completely stopped using tobacco products and narcotics at weddings. “In the near future, I will be paying tribute to those families, especially women, who do not serve alcohol at their weddings,” Chauhan said.
The action plan for 2025-26 was discussed in the meeting and the villagers raised issues regarding stray and wild animals. The meeting unanimously passed a resolution that felling of trees, price and payment must be done with the permission of the Panchayat.
Prohibition for 11 years
