The beloved actor shared how he faced rejection and humiliation on set before becoming a household name, an experience that ultimately fueled his ambition.

The incident occurred in the late 1970s, early in Rajinikanth’s career, when he was still playing supporting roles or villains. He negotiated a salary of Rs 10,000, which was eventually reduced to Rs 6,000. However, when the day came, the promised payments still did not materialize. Rajinikanth refused to start wearing makeup until he was paid. This led to a heated confrontation with the producer, who arrived in an Ambassador car and angrily fired him from the project, telling him that he was not high enough to demand such treatment.

With no transportation or money, Rajinikanth walked home, feeling humiliated and frustrated. On the way, he heard people on the bus reciting his dialogue 16 Wayadinilihe mistook it for ridicule. However, this hike became a turning point in his life. Rajinikanth promised himself that one day he would return to the same studio in a foreign car.

After two years of hard work, Rajinikanth succeeded and purchased an Italian-made Fiat car worth Rs 4.25 lakh, a milestone in his rise in the industry. He humorously revealed that he even hired a 6-foot-tall British-Indian driver named Robinson to wear a uniform to drive the foreign car.

In a moment of triumph, Rajinikanth drove to AVM Studios and people mistook his ceremonious arrival for that of a dignitary. He then visited his mentor K Balachander to seek blessings, cementing his journey from a struggling actor to an iconic superstar in the Indian film industry.
