Washington: Former President Donald Trump’s Republican Party secured a majority in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday night. The party is reportedly on another winning streak, winning several seats held by Democrats and increasing its dominance in the Senate for the first time in four years. The Republican’s surprise victory in Nebraska put it over the top. Incumbent Republican Sen. Deb Fisher recently faced a strong challenge from fast-rising independent Dan Osborne.
Democrats also lost in Texas and Florida
Let me tell you, the Democrats have completely failed to hold on to their slim majority in the Senate, and the whole numbers seem to be in the favor of the Republicans. Overnight, Republicans gained a seat in West Virginia, won by Jim Justice. He easily succeeded retiring Sen. Joe Manchin. Meanwhile, Democratic efforts to unseat Republican Leader Ted Cruz of Texas and Republican Leader Rick Scott of Florida have failed resoundingly.
Focus turns to Democratic-dominated states
Elections for the House and Senate of the U.S. House of Representatives (called Congress) will determine which party has the majority. At the same time, it will also be decided which House has the power to advance or block the president’s agenda, or whether the White House (the official office and residence of the President of the United States) must face a split in the House. All attention is now focused on the Democratic-dominated states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, where Democrats are fighting to hold on to the remaining seats in the Senate.
