Congress leader Digvijay Singh.
After the by-election dates for the Budni and Vijaypur assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh were announced, political parties started campaigning. Key leaders of Congress have also started campaigning. Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh will address 10 street rallies in different areas of Budhni today. Congress, on the other hand, has summoned Sachin pilot to Vijpur tomorrow to woo Gurjar voters.
Sachin Pilot will unveil a statue of Gurjar leader and former MP Tarachand Patel at the start of his campaign tour. Thereafter, he will travel to Vijpur from Bawa around 12:15 pm and address a public meeting at Kalahar in Vijpur at 2:45 pm.
Former chief minister Kamal Nath targets BJP
The two seats in the by-election are highly contested. The Election Commission has announced the bypoll dates for these seats along with the elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. The Budhni seat fell vacant after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan became MP, while the Vijaypur seat fell vacant after Congress leader Ramniwas Rawat joined the BJP. The committee set the date for voting as November 13 and the date for announcing the results as November 23. The Congress became very active in the Budni by-election.
Senior Congress leaders Digvijay Singh and Kamal Nath have started campaigning to make inroads into the stronghold of the former chief minister of the BJP. In his speech, Kamal Nath vehemently targeted the BJP government and criticized the Shivraj government through schemes such as the Rs 400 cylinder.
Date changes in these states
The Election Commission has also changed the dates for assembly by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Kerala. Voting for the 14 seats in these three states will now be held on November 20 instead of November 13, and the results will be announced on November 23. The committee made this change on the request of the BJP, Congress, RLD and BSP as the polls were likely to be affected due to Guru Nanak Devji’s Kartik Purnima and Prakash Parv on November 15.
