Farmer’s land and its documents
Thirty years ago, in Bidar, Karnataka, a farmer allowed a deceased member of the Muslim community to be buried in his field. Today, on the same basis, the Pihani Waqf Board has brought the entire land of the farmers to its name. Since the farmer had also settled some people on his land, the Waqf Board has now issued notices to the farmer and all such people to vacate the land. In this situation, farmers and many others appealed to the district collector to the chief minister to save their land and houses. However, no hearings at any level have yet been held.
The incident took place in Udabala village in Chitaguppa taluk of Bidar province. Krishnamurthy, a farmer living in the village, told reporters that his entire 18.60 acres of land has been transferred to the Waqf Board. In his complaint to the chief minister and district collector, he said a member of the Muslim community living in the village died 30 years ago. Out of humanity and brotherhood, he allowed his family to bury the body in a corner of the field. Thereafter, the Waqf Board quietly added all of his land to its name.
More than 90 families notified
According to Krishnamurti, he knew about this about 10 years ago. He immediately protested, but the hearing was not held before the Waqf Committee. He even appealed to DM and CM thereafter. After that, he kept visiting officials. According to Krishna Murthy, on his side of the land, his ancestors provided space for more than 90 people to build houses. All these people lived there for many years after building their houses, but now the Waqf Board has informed them all to vacate the land.
10 The first land was registered in the name of Waqf Board
According to Krishnamurti, his land had four shareholders. Among them was not only himself, but also Lakapa, Maruti and Malapa besides him. After the death of these three people, the entire land became their names. However, it was later in 2013 that he came to know that the entire land was in the name of Pihani Waqf Board. The farmer told us that his family has been farming this land since the days of the Nizam. Suddenly, waqfs fraudulently transferred their lands in their own names.
