Petitioners remind SC decision, MP High Court bans construction of temples in police stations

High Court Member

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has stayed the construction of temples in police stations across the state and issued notices to the government. This information was provided by counsel representing the applicant in this case.

He said a division bench of Chief Justice SK Kait and Justice Vivek Jain also issued notice to the director general of police (DGP) and others on a petition challenging the construction of a temple inside a Madhya Pradesh police station. Advocate Om Prakash Yadav filed a petition challenging the construction of the temple inside the police station, said advocate Satish Verma. The lawyers argued that the open land where these temples are being built is a public place.

Quoting the SC command

Satish Verma said the petition cited the recent Supreme Court order banning the construction of religious buildings in public places. Therefore, the ongoing temple construction within the Madhya Pradesh police station is in violation of the Supreme Court order. The petitioner’s counsel said temples have been constructed in some police stations in clear violation of the constitutional provisions.
