“Ride on firecrackers, we’ll give you a free auto-rickshaw” Friend’s proposal on Diwali, young man killed in blast

A heart-wrenching incident occurred in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka state. One person died there due to firecrackers. The incident took place on October 31 (Diwali night). The 32-year-old accepted a friend’s challenge, which led to his untimely death.

The victim, Sabri (32), accepted the challenge of sitting on a burning firecracker after his friend offered him an auto-rickshaw in return. The incident took place on the evening of October 31 at Weavers Colony in Konankunt, south Bengaluru. The incident was captured on a neighbour’s CCTV camera.

All the accused friends were drunk

The victim, Sabri, sat on a container-like object and his friends placed firecrackers inside and lit them. The owner of the car, Naveen (26), and six of his friends were present at the time of the incident. Giving more information about the case, DCP Bengaluru South B Lokesh said all the friends, including Sabari, were drunk.

Defendant admits to providing free rickshaw

After interrogation, the police learned that the victim was Sabari, a worker. He accepted the challenge of sitting on a burning firecracker as his friend Navin offered to provide his auto-rickshaw if he won the bet.

Man dies in hospital

Sabri spent two days in the burns ward of Victoria Hospital due to burns on his waist caused by a firecracker blast, but died on Saturday night. Konankunt police have registered a case of manslaughter. A case has been registered against Naveen and six of his friends who lit firecrackers.

DCP Bengaluru South B Lokesh said an FIR has been registered against the owners under Section 108 of BNS. The police have arrested the main accused Naveen and his other friends. The defendant was charged with manslaughter. All have appeared in court.
