IPL 2025: GT captain Shubman Gill will make a huge sacrifice and can only get so much money if retained

The race to retain the rights is intensifying ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The deadline for submission of reserved lists to all IPL teams is October 31. Under such circumstances, each team is busy preparing. Meanwhile, big news related to Gujarat Titans is coming out. In fact, Gujarat Titans will take a huge cut in the salary of captain Shuman Gill. Gill also took a pay cut. Gill is believed to be the second player retained by IPL side Gujarat Titans ahead of the October 31 deadline. IPL sources provided this significant information.

According to reports, the first player to be retained in the Gujarat team will be star spinner Rashid Khan. Thereafter, the team can retain Gill, Sy Sudarshan and two uncapped players Rahul Tewatia and Shah Rukh Khan. Teams will have a chance to retain one more player via a playing rights card in a major auction next month. Gill is being considered to be the next captain of the Indian cricket team.

Here are the rules about IPL reservations

An IPL source said Gill has decided to take a pay cut in order to retain key players in the team and build a stronger squad. According to the IPL retention policy released before the mega auction, if the first player is retained, the team will lose Rs 180 million out of the increase of Rs 120 million. When the second one is retained, Rs 14 crore will be deducted and when the third one is retained, Rs 11 crore will be deducted. For the players who do not play, the team will spend Rs 4 crore each. If a team retains five players from international cricket, Rs 75 crore will be deducted from its auction total of Rs 120 crore. Big auctions are likely to be held abroad in the last week of November.

Gujarat Titans became IPL champions in 2022 but missed the chance to win the title in 2023. She is the 2023 IPL runner-up. Ahead of IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya left GT and headed to Mumbai Indians. Thereafter, the command of the team was handed over to Shubman Gill. The team’s performance last season was very poor. The team is eighth in the standings.
