South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada continues to climb the ladder of progress. Rabada played only 66 Test matches but had many great records to his name. Recently, Rabada created history by touching the 300-wicket mark in Tests. He became the sixth South African bowler to take 300 wickets in Tests. Rabada achieved this monumental achievement in the first Test match against Bangladesh at Mirpur. He took a total of nine wickets in the two innings of the Mirpur Test, which gave him a huge advantage in the ICC rankings.
In fact, Kagiso Rabada emerged as the number one Test bowler in the latest ICC rankings released on October 30, overtaking Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah Bumrah’s rule. Meanwhile, Bumrah slipped two places to third position. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood was second.
South African bowlers who have taken most wickets in Tests
- Dale Styne – 439
- Sean Pollack – 421
- Makaya Antini – 390
- Alan Donald – 330
- Kagiso Rabada – 310
Soon after topping the Test rankings, Rabada dealt a heavy blow to another Indian bowler. In the second Test against Bangladesh, Rabada achieved a great record of two wickets. Rabada retains India’s veteran spinner Ravindra Jadeja in the list of bowlers with the most wickets in Tests. Rabada has 310 wickets in 119 innings in 66 Test matches. Jadeja, meanwhile, took 309 wickets in 144 innings in 76 Test matches.
Rabada will now have a good chance to bowl 3 bowlers simultaneously on the third day of the second Test match. If he manages to take 2 wickets on day 3, he will be behind Brett Lee (310), Zaheer Khan (311) and Ishant in terms of taking most wickets in Tests · Sharma(311). Judging from Rabada’s current excellent form, this record is almost certain.
