Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has launched many health-related schemes. One of them is Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). Under the plan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to launch health insurance for all people aged 70 and above on October 29. Meanwhile, the U-WIN portal developed to maintain electronic registration for regular vaccinations will also be launched on the same day.
It is reported that in addition to these two projects, a number of other projects will also be launched on Tuesday, October 29. The U-WIN platform is similar to the COVID-19 vaccine management system Co-WIN and is designed to maintain a permanent digital record of vaccinations for pregnant women and children from birth to 17 years of age.
Sixty million citizens will benefit
Sources said there is a possibility of launching an expanded scheme under the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme, which will benefit around 60 million citizens from around 450 million households. Every person aged 70 years or above is eligible for an Ayushman card. After the launch of the expansion plan, AB can get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh at any hospital under PMJAY.

The scheme will be implemented in 33 states and Union Territories
As of September 1, 2024, a total of 29,648 hospitals are included in PMJAY, including 12,696 private hospitals. The scheme is currently being implemented in 33 states and union territories in the country, besides Delhi, Odisha and West Bengal. Senior citizens will be able to fully benefit from this scheme.
According to sources, anyone aged 70 or above will be eligible to apply for the scheme, based on the age recorded on their Aadhar card. They will be able to get free treatment in hospitals and this scheme of the government will prove to be very beneficial for the elderly.
