After the recent cyclone Dana in Odisha, a large number of snake bite cases were reported in the state. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi said on Saturday that 28 snake bites have occurred during Cyclone Dana. These include 13 women and a doctor.
The incidents came to light in the worst-affected Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts of the state. Chief Minister Manjhi disclosed this to the media after reviewing the post-cyclone situation.
He said all the victims were immediately taken to nearby hospitals and were in improved condition after treatment, the news agency reported. CM Manjhi said the injured doctor has been sent to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack and is in good condition.
The injured doctor has been identified as Dr Babul Mohanty, who was posted at the Primary Health Center (PHC) at Mahakalpara in Kendrapara district. The Chief Minister said that Dr Mohanty has been appointed as the primary health center to provide health services during the cyclone.
The incident occurred on the morning of October 25 when Dr. Mohanty went out because there was no toilet for the center staff and was bitten by a venomous snake. Doctors immediately administered antivenom and he was sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where he received treatment.
Healthcare workers and the general public are also advised to take extra precautions due to this unexpected issue that occurred during Hurricane Dana. The state government has issued instructions to ensure rescue operations and snake prevention measures in various districts.
