‘Jigra’ director defends Alia Bhatt-Karan Johar, says ‘they earned their reputation through hard work’

Alia Bhatt starrer’s performance in the film Jigra has recently sparked discussions everywhere. The film, which had Alia in a fast-paced action role, had high expectations but failed miserably at the box office. There are all kinds of controversies surrounding the film, and as always, the film’s producer Karan Johar is an easy target for social media trolls.

Now, Jigra director Vasan Bala has defended Alia and Karan. Bala said he was not angry about the public response to “Jigra” but was a bit concerned about the film’s commercial performance as it was his first film of such a large scale.

Vasan Bala speaks in support of Alia and Karan
Speaking to VOA India, Bala was full of praise for Karan and Alia. He said both men had earned their reputations in the industry through their own efforts. Bala feels guilty for not living up to Alia and Karan’s expectations of Jigra, saying, “Box office is important because it’s not my money.” This is one of the main responsibilities of a filmmaker. It (filmmaking) is an art, but it’s an expensive art form. It takes a lot of resources to make a movie, and both producers and stars have made a name for themselves. Karan didn’t inherit it, he delivered the biggest blockbusters and earned that spot for himself. And Alia has made a name for herself over the past decade.

Wasan calls Alia ‘very knowledgeable’
Vasan said it was his responsibility to earn minimum income from the film, but he failed to achieve it. Let us tell you that the makers reportedly spent around Rs 90 crore on Jigra. And Alia’s film is yet to cross the Rs 50-crore mark at the global box office. About working with Alia, Bala said: “She is very instinctive. I will always use the word ‘smart’ to describe her because she never calculates.

Vasan said Alia has a deep understanding of storytelling and doesn’t take her time to master new ideas. He said: “Every time we decide something on set, there is a little discussion. And that discussion ends quickly. Satya (Aliya’s character in Jigra) always Acting on need, not on her share There is a greed associated with wanting, but need is very pure.
