Storm “Dhana” formed in the Bay of Bengal will hit the Odisha coast today (that is, the evening of October 24), with a speed of up to 110-120 kilometers per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Dana is moving rapidly to the northwest and people in coastal areas are being evacuated to safe locations. 1. The cyclonic storm “Dhana” that is about to make landfall in Odisha and Bengal will hit the coast today. When the storm hits the sea, its speed can reach 120 to 130 kilometers per hour. Affected by the storm, Odisha and Bengal will experience strong winds and possible heavy rains.

2. The meteorological department has issued a red warning for Bengal and Odisha. Many NDRF teams in the two states are on alert in view of the storm. Flights from Kolkata airport have been stopped from tonight till tomorrow morning. At the same time, more than 150 trains were cancelled. Apart from this, the impact of the storm was seen in Bihar and Jharkhand.
3. In view of this warning from the meteorological department, state governments have begun preparations for the storm. A red alert for heavy rain has been issued for Puri, Khurda, Ganjam and Jagasinghpur districts of Odisha. An alert has been issued for South 24 Parganas and Midnapore districts of Bengal. In addition to this, a warning was issued to fishermen to stay away from the sea.
4. NDRF is responsible for Dana storm related work in Bengal and Odisha. Many NDRF teams are deployed in both the states. The Railways has canceled more than 150 express and passenger trains amid fears of cyclonic storm Dana. The danger of storms is great. In this case, we are making every effort to ensure that no damage is caused. Preparations for this storm are in full swing on all fronts.

5. The severe cyclonic storm “Dana” in the central Bay of Bengal and adjacent northwest regions moved north-northwestward at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour in the past 6 hours. This is the situation at 6 o’clock in the morning on October 24th today. The state government has deployed 19 NDRF teams, 51 Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and 178 fire brigade teams. In addition to this, we have dispatched 40 additional teams to the affected areas.
6. The Meteorological Department estimates that the storm will hit the West Bengal coast between northern Odisha and Dhanapuri. Landfall is likely at Sagar Island near Bhitarkanika and Damara (Odisha) between midnight of October 24 and morning of 25 October. During this period, wind speeds can reach 100-110 kilometers per hour to 120 kilometers per hour. The Odisha government has closed two major temples in the state – Jagannath Temple and Konark Temple – for devotees. The order is currently in effect until October 25. To ensure the chief minister’s “zero casualties” target, the state government deployed NDRF, ODRAF and fire departments.
7. Odisha and West Bengal are ready to deal with severe cyclonic storms. The two state governments have begun evacuating people from dangerous areas and decided to close educational institutions in sensitive areas. All educational institutions, including schools, colleges and universities, in 14 districts of Odisha will remain closed till October 25. In Bangladesh, schools in seven districts will remain closed until October 26.
8. According to the Meteorological Department, the storm is likely to cause maximum damage in Bhadrak district of Odisha. It was already raining heavily in Bhadrak. The trees disappeared into the mist due to heavy rain and high-speed winds. Red flags have been put up at the beach as a warning to keep tourists away. Seaside shops are closed and about 3,000 tourists have been sent back from Puri. Hotel bookings are not allowed within 4 days of Puri.
9. Alerts have been issued in 14 states of Odisha in view of Storm Dana. Meanwhile, one million people in about 3,000 villages are being moved to relief camps. Bengal Governor Anand Bose called on people to remain vigilant. Apart from this, international sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik has called on people to be vigilant and make people aware of the storm by creating artworks on sand.
10. In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the government has made adequate arrangements for food, essential medicines, water and electricity at relief centers and cyclone shelters. Apart from this, the pregnant woman was taken to a nearby hospital to give birth safely. About 700 electric police officers have been deployed to ensure that there are no power problems.
