‘Dharna’ likely to wreak havoc in Odisha-Bengal, over 500 trains canceled, flights banned for 16 hours

Dana may wreak havoc in Bengal’s Odisha state

Odisha and Bengal have issued a high alert for cyclonic storm Dana. Dana is likely to hit Odisha today and the West Bengal coast tomorrow. During this period, wind speeds can reach 120 kilometers per hour. Due to the coming of the storm, great fear arose among the people. Due to the impact of Cyclone Dana, many parts of Odisha and Bengal are experiencing heavy rain and wind.

More than 500 trains were canceled due to the storm. The plane has been banned from flying for 16 hours. NDRF has deployed more than 50 teams. Around 10 people were evacuated from several coastal districts of Odisha in response to the danger of cyclonic storm ‘Dhana’. As a precautionary measure, more than 114,000 people have been sent to shelter homes in West Bengal.

  • Assessing the safety preparedness for cyclone Dana, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that 30 per cent people (three to four lakh) live in danger zones from where they had arrived on Wednesday night Evacuate.
  • The weather department said the storm will reach speeds of 120 kilometers per hour when it hits Odisha. In view of the outbreak of this storm, the Eastern and Southeastern Railways have canceled trains on a large scale from October 24th to 25th.
  • Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has urged all MLAs to stay in their constituencies. The doctors’ leave has been canceled and they have been recalled to their respective medical centres.
  • Flight operations at Biju Patnaik International Airport will be suspended for 16 hours from Thursday evening in view of ‘Dharna’. Airport operations will continue to be suspended from 5 pm on October 24 to 9 am on October 25.
  • Meanwhile, flight operations at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport will also remain closed from 5 pm today to 9 am tomorrow, October 25. Schools and colleges in many districts of Odisha and Bengal have been closed till October 25-26.
  • In view of Cyclone Dana, 552 trains were also canceled. South Eastern Railway has canceled 150 trains, East Coast Railway has canceled 198 trains, Eastern Railway has canceled 190 trains and South East Central Railway has canceled 14 trains.
  • In view of Cyclone Dana, the NDRF has deployed a total of 56 teams in 5 states including Odisha and West Bengal. The cyclone is expected to reach the Odisha coast between October 24 and 25. The teams have equipment to cut down power poles and trees.
