The National Investigation Agency (NIA) issued a statement on Wednesday. A special court in Lucknow has allegedly convicted a person from Gujarat of conspiring with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence, to carry out terror activities in the country.
The traitor has been identified as Rajkbhai Kumbhar, a resident of Gujarat. Rajkbhai Kumbhar is the second accused to be convicted in a case registered in 2020, an NIA statement said.
The statement said that on Tuesday, the special NIA court sentenced the accused Rajkabhai Kumbhar to rigorous imprisonment under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Now he could face up to six years in prison. All sentences will be executed simultaneously, the statement said.
According to PTI reports, the NIA special court had previously sentenced Rashid, a resident of Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh, in this case. The case against him was initially registered by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Gomti Nagar, alleging that Rashid had links with operatives of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The ATS accused him of providing photographs of sensitive, strategic and important locations in India and activities of the Indian Army to Pakistani agents. The photos, including defense markings, were clicked from his mobile phone, the NIA said.
The central agency took over the case in April 2020 and filed charges against Rashid in July 2020, followed by additional charges against Rajkbhai Kumbhar in February 2021.
The NIA said the agency’s investigation revealed that Rajkbhai Kumbhar conspired with Rashid and Pakistan’s ISI agents to carry out terrorist activities and made preparations for their execution.
The two also conspired to conceal nefarious anti-India plans carried out by agents based in Pakistan, the NIA said. According to the NIA, Rajkbhai Kumbhar provided money to Rashid in exchange for sending sensitive photos to ISI agents and helping him in the job.
