In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, an old woman who was constructing a border on her land was tried to be burnt alive by members of her powerful family. They poured oil on it and set it on fire. The police rushed the seriously injured woman to a district hospital while they started searching for the accused after registering a report on her son’s complaint.
Usha Yadav is a 60-year-old woman living in Kanpur’s Bithoor area, where she owns ancestral land dating back to her grandfather’s time. Usha’s son Ajay Yadav claimed that whenever his mother went to her land, the family members of Patidars Umashankar Yadav and Dayashankar Yadav objected. They say you have no right to be on this land, run away from here. In view of their objections, we also filed a lawsuit in court.
Ajay further told me that on Tuesday my mother went to her land and Umashankar Yadav, Dayashankar Yadav and their families were already there and tried to Get her out of there. My mother is also very firm in my persistence. The land is mine, why should others stop it? So she sat there. Seeing them, Umashankar became even more angry and along with his brothers, he poured oil on my mother and set her on fire. When my mother was completely burned, the accused fled the scene and later called the police. The police came and first sent my mother to the local hospital. Seeing that her condition was serious, she was then sent to the district hospital.
The son also said that before this happened, these powerful people had set fire to my guava orchard and we had reported it. ACP Bithoor Abhishek Pandey said the woman’s son Ajay Yadav informed his mother of the burn injuries and the police rushed to the spot and rushed the woman to the hospital. Action is being taken to register a report against the accused on his application. According to doctors, the woman’s burn area exceeded 60%, and her condition was serious due to her age.
