Violent protests broke out again in Bangladesh. This time, protesters are calling for the country’s president, Mohammad Shahabuddin, to step down. A similar demonstration took place in front of the presidential residence Bangabhaban in the capital Dhaka at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday. During this period, thousands of people gathered in front of the presidential palace and raised slogans.
According to sources, protesters tried to dismantle police barricades and police had to resort to barbed wire to stop this. Police also fired tear gas canisters as the protesting crowds turned violent.
5 protesters hospitalized
According to Bangladeshi media reports, five protesters were injured in the police onslaught and were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. It was learned that the police started talking to the protesters as soon as they gathered outside Banga Bhavan. But it didn’t work out.
Throwing stones and roadblocks at police
According to the police, seeing that the situation could not be brought under control, army personnel also talked to the protesters, but when that failed, they had to resort to Ratisok. Protesters also pelted stones and blocked Gulistan Road near Bangabababan, police said.
Protesters injured by stun grenade explosion
“Five people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Three of them suffered injuries to their legs and two to their ears,” DMCH police chief Mohammad Farooq said, according to Daily West Asia Satellite. All were injured by stun grenades.
