Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Masood Pajeshkian on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia on Tuesday. This is the first meeting between Parjeshkian and Prime Minister Modi since his victory in early elections in July. The meeting discussed the need for peace in West Asia and the role of India.
The meeting also discussed tensions between Israel and Iran. Prime Minister Modi also invited President Parjeshkian to visit India, which the President has accepted. The two leaders also discussed measures to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as Chabahar Port and the International North-South Transport Corridor.
